You know those little white lies you tell your kids to keep them safe, or maintain your sanity? C'mon we all do it. The little things like don't chew with your mouth open or bugs will get in, or if you don't wash your hands after you pee, they'll fall off. Anyone with me? Anyone? Beuler? Ok, back on track here. So those little white lies. Yesterday, I got caught in one, by my almost three year old. Man, the ultimate burn.
So we're driving home from SuperTarget last night and Collin commences his car trip routine.
- Remove Shoe
- Remove Sock
- Carefully use big toe to open window
So aside from the fact that I can't stand the road noise, I don't want the wind swirling in and creating a draft (I think it was only like 65 degrees). So I roll his window up and lock it. Within two seconds I hear "BUT MOMMMMYYYY why can't I have my window down." First I tried to reason "It's too dark to have the windows open" (yeah, ok, how does that even make sense?) but he wouldn't buy it. Then I tried talking him out of it "You don't really want the windows open right?" WRONG! He
did want them open, I mean that's why he pulled out the toe maneuver in the first place, right?
So finally I blurt out, "Collin, if we have the windows open, we'll get hurt." I don't know where it came from, I just didn't wanna deal with it and thought that if he thought someone might get hurt, he wouldn't want to do it. Instead of complying, he replied "Psh, Mommy, wind can't hurt anybody, it's just air." Ouch. Burned by a 2-year-old.
